Athens-Limestone Public Library

Weather Closure Policy

In order to fulfill its mission of public service, the Athens-Limestone County Public Library will make every reasonable effort to open to the public as scheduled.  The library will close, delay opening, or close ahead of schedule when the weather becomes hazardous to the health and/or safety of the public and/or library staff.  Emergency/inclement weather closings will be authorized by the Director and/or the Library Board of Trustees.  In addition, if the Governor declares a state of emergency in anticipation of severe weather, the Library will close.

No child may be sent to the library if the schools close early due to weather or emergencies.  In the event of a library closure, an attempt will be made to contact any unattended child’s parent or guardian by phone for immediate pickup.  If the attempt to contact a child’s parent or guardian is unsuccessful, the supervision of the child will become a police matter to ensure the child’s safety.

We will publicize any unexpected closure as soon as possible.  Announcements will be posted on our webpage and Facebook.  In these situations, our priority is patron and staff safety.

Any items due on unexpected weather closure days will be due the next day the Library is open.
